Thanks for Coming To Scarboro Fare Fair 1994!

On behalf of the James McCowan Memorial Social History Society, Like Magic Productions, St. Andrew's Church and several dozen non-profit groups, agricultural marketing boards and prize donors, I warmly welcome you to this celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Scarborough's first "food fair".

Please refer to the list of "Quizzes" in this program. The answers are all easily located in the literature from the many food-related non-profit groups and farm marketing boards -- prizes for the lucky winners!

The Grand Prize Draw for a Fiesta Barbecue will be held on November 12 just before the Stage Production of "A Scarboro Tale". All who purchase a copy of Fairs and Frolics: Scottish Communities at Work and Play for $6 and fill in the draw ballot with their name, address and telephone number are eligible. Don't forget to answer the skill testing question!:

"In the late nineteenth century, who was the hero of Scarboro Fair?"

Clue: check the table of Contents of Fairs and Frolics.

Information, Recipes, Quizes, Prizes!

Some of you may remember grain-threshing bees -- great examples of the community pulling together. "Community Action" in the food-chain was even more important a hundred years ago.

Tonight, an apple paring bee and Barn Dance here at one of Scarborough's most historic sites will transport us back to the "community action" era of the nineteenth century.

Please enjoy this very informal evening of fun and frolic.
