Rosh Hashana On April 18 I attended the fifth meeting of the Scarborough Board of Education. You will be pleased to learn that Board employees and students raised over $97,000 for the 1993 United Way Campaign. I also had the pleasure of meeting Rochelle Wilner and Dr. Karen Mock of the League for Human Rights of B'Nai Brith Canada, Central Region. They proposed to the Board that the first day of school be delayed so that Jewish students and teachers would not have to choose between this important annual school event and one of Judaism's holiest days, Rosh Hashana, which falls this year on September 6. Although many other Boards have cooperated with this simple and reasonable request, Scarborough has not. From The Scarboro Heights Record V2 #3 |
